Reflexology works by balancing and harmonizing the whole system. It has been observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot mirrors congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the body, so for example, when you treat the big toes there is a related effect in the head and treating the whole foot can have a relaxing and healing effect on the whole body. A Reflexologist aims to balance the bodies natural energies encouraging your own natural ability to heal.
There are over 7000 nerve endings in the feet and stimulation of these can initiate a profound relaxation response, it has been observed that at this level, healing seems to originate. Stress and other conditions can unbalance the body and vital energy pathways or meridians become blocked preventing the bodies natural energies from flowing correctly. Trained sensitive hands can detect these blockages and maintain the free flow of energy to the whole body.
Reflexology may help by
-
Stimulating the body’s self-healing ability
-
Stimulating the thousands of nerve ending in the feet
-
Relieving tension
Reflexology may increase blood flow, helping to clear away accumulated waste products and toxins. Some waste products may appear in the form of crystals made up of uric acid and calcium, the effect of gravity deposits such waste in the feet and lower leg. They appear as grains of sugar or sand under the skin. By working on these they can be broken down, dispersed in the blood and flushed out of the system
A Reflexologist applies gentle pressure to the feet, as each of us is so unique then so is the application and effect of reflexology. Reflexology is a complementary therapy which aims to help the whole person and not just the prevailing symptoms, however a few conditions will require GP consent before treatment may commence, your Reflexologist will discuss this with you, please do contact me with any concerns.
For reflexology please allow initially 75-90 minutes, thereafter for any subsequent treatment please allow one hour. Treatments however in the workplace may be tailored to suit the time available.
On your first visit a preliminary client history is requested to determine your present and past health and life style. This will also help to establish and determine the expectations of the treatment. Pressure is applied to the feet, the application and effect of this therapy is unique as clients will each react to the treatment in their own peculiar way. A trained and experienced reflexologist can detect tiny subtle changes in specific points in the feet and by working on these points, may effect the corresponding organs or systems of the body. The treatment can be very relaxing and with special music and relaxation techniques you will be encouraged to relax to your own comfortable level.
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definate way. Most people notice a sense of well being and relaxation, some people feel invigorated. A very few however may feel subsequently lethargic, even nauseous or tearful, this is transient and a part of the healing process.
